 Jameson

The Jameson Picnic

This year we celebrated the 119th annual Jameson Picnic sponsored by the Jameson Lions Club.  The picnic is a true 'Local Attraction'.  Friends and neighbors come from miles around to join in the fun.  It is held every year in August and is the highlight of the summer.

Fish Fry

Twice a year the Jameson Community Betterment Association hosts a Fish Fry dinner.  It is always a hit with all the local communities.  In these tough economic times, guests are treated to a full fish dinner and are encouraged to 'eat your fill and pay what you will'.

Gallatin

Chautauqua

Every year on the third weekend in September Gallatin holds their Chautauqua celebration.  Three days of great fun on the town square.

The Gallatin Theatre League

At the Courter theater located just south of the town square, the Gallatin Theatre League has been presenting the performing arts to the people of Daviess County for twenty-six years.  Everything from "Arsenic and Old Lace" to "South Pacific".  From "Kiss Me Kate" to "Pajama Game".  Their talented cast of players combined with professional sound and lighting make for an enjoyable evening at the theater.  They generally do a spring play and a fall play plus a childrens summer theater.  A couple of times a year they do a "Grand River Opry" musical revue and a free Christmas show.  For information concerning any upcoming performances contact Paul Caven at: pndcaven@hughes.net

Jamesport

Heritage Day

On the fourth Saturday in September the town of Jamesport celebrates their heritage with a parade and many other events.

Amish Country Quilt Auction and Show

Jamesport has the largest Amish community in Missouri and on the 2nd weekend of October they hold their annual quilt auction.  Hundreds of hand made quilts and other hand made objects up for sale.

For more information about the town of Jamesport go to their website at:  www.Jamesportmissouri.org

The North Missouri Produce Auction is a partnership owned by a number of local shareholders who constructed a facility near Jamesport for the purpose of selling produce, providing a market for interested growers along with a source of fresh produce. Perishable crops will be picked just hours before the sale.

Winston

Jesse James Days

Winston's historic train depot is the site of the Great Train Robbery which occurred on July 15, 1881 by the James Gang.  To commemorate this Winston hosts Jesse James Days every year in mid July.

Jameson

Adam-ondi-Ahman

The area known as Adam-ondi-Ahman is located in Daviess County, adjacent to the Village of Jameson.  It is a place of beginnings, departures and returns. The Mormons believe this is where Adam and Eve first dwelt when they left the Garden of Eden.  Orson Pratt defined the words Adam-ondi-Ahman from the Adamic language as, "valley of God, where Adam dwelt."

Grand River Whitetails

Grand River Whitetails offers some of the finest Whitetail hunting in the world. Located in Northern Missouri this private 700 acre hunting preserve is managed exclusively to produce World Class Whitetail. The management of genetics, habitat and limited hunting pressure enables the hunter an opportunity to harvest 200 inch plus mature bucks. Our hunting opportunities are limited to ensure an exclusive experience.

Gallatin

The Squirrel Cage Jail

Just a few blocks from the courthouse in Gallatin, MO, sets a building known as the Daviess County Rotary Jail, an 8-sided brick structure attached to a 2-story house. Years ago wards of Daviess County stared through the barred windows or passed the time of day with children from the school across the street. They saved their orange juice and put it in the window to ferment. Or they whiled away the long hours writing graffiti, poems, obscenities or their names on the walls. That all ended in 1975 when the jail was closed. But the structure remains as one of the most unusual means of housing prisoners yet devised.
